Halloween Parade 2023

Halloween Parade 2023

Halloween Parade 2023

Our Halloween Parade took place today in our school yard and it was fantastic entertainment. Midway through the rain started to fall but thankfully the ‘Ghoulish Gathering’ was able to continue in our hall.

There was an abundance of creativity, color, and fun on display.

We must say a huge well done to all at home who helped create such magnificent costumes (and some terrifying ones too). No doubt it was difficult putting together the final touches this morning 😁

We encouraged the use of recycled costumes this year as part of our Green Schools initiative and the standard was extremely high this year. The judges had a tough job on their hands to pick award winners from all these amazing creations.

As well as this, our active school committee placed exercise stations around our track which were used all week in the lead-up to Halloween break by our classes.

Please see our Monster Parade video and picture gallery below for a snapshot of some of the amazing costumes around our school today.

Mid-term Break

We hope all pupils, parents, and staff enjoy a well-earned rest during the midterm break.

Our camogie team represented our school in the new West Cork Sciath na Scol camogie competition at Enniskeane today.

After the grading competition a few weeks ago, we were placed in Division 2 which included another three schools, Laragh NS, Timoleague NS, and St Marys, Enniskeane.

Unfortunately, the weather made for very tough conditions for the teams. However, our team can be very proud of their performances against Laragh NS and St Marys, Enniskeane. They played with such enthusiasm and displayed some fantastic skills on the field in both games.

The Timoleague NS team went on to win the cup final against Laragh NS after a fine display, so very well done to them.

Well done to all Knockskeagh NS panel members on the day. We are very proud of them.

Sciath na Scol Hurling

Sciath na Scol Hurling

Sciath na Scol Hurling

Our boys hurling team represented our school in the new West Cork Sciath na Scol hurling competition at Ahamilla today.

After the grading competition a few weeks ago, we were placed in Division 2 which included two groups of three schools. The top side in each group would play in the cup final and the 2nd placed teams in each group would play in the shield final.

Our first game against Ballinacarriga NS was a very tough game. Our opposition getting a great start but our lads fought back and showed great spirit to win by a few points in the end.

Our 2nd game in the group was effectively a cup semi-final against Barryroe as they managed to win against Ballinacarriga NS in their first game too.

The Barryroe game was a closely fought game all the way through. After being level for much of the game, Barryroe NS struck a few decisive scores in the 2nd half to eventually win by two points. This titanic battle took a lot out of our boys as they left everything out on the field. However, they can hold their heads high as all onlookers commented on the attitude and skills on display from both sides. The Barryroe NS team went on to win the cup final against Coppeen NS after a fine display, so very well done to them.

As a result of our loss to Barryroe NS, the Knockskeagh boys entered the Shield Final against Ardfield NS which pitted the two 2nd placed teams in each group against each other. Ardfield with the wind in the 1st half took a commanding lead that they never relinquished. In fairness to our lads, they never stopped going but Ardfield NS defended gallantly and ran out deserving winners in the shield final in the end. Congrats to them

Well done to all Knockskeagh NS panel members on the day, they represented our school with great spirit, attitude, and determination. We are very proud of them.

Sciath na Scoil Hurling Panel members as follows; Daire O Neill, Donncha Straight, Jack O’Donovan, Tim Crowley, Matthew Kelleher, Michael Collins, Patrick O’Leary, Jason O’Connell, Daniel Walsh, Colin Moloney, Liam Campbell, Ben Egan and Vincent Beechinor.

Next Friday it’s the girl’s turn in the Sciath na Scoil Camogie Blitz. We wish them all the very best of luck. Knockskeagh Abú

European Week of Sport

European Week of Sport

European Week of Sport

To celebrate European Week of Sport, our classes learned about a sport, dance, or game from a different country.

There was great fun had by all through this activity, well done to all students for being good sports, and huge thanks to all teachers for their creativity in this initiative.

Junior Infants had great fun playing a game called ‘Agalmata’ which is Greek for statues. One player stands in the middle with their eyes closed and counts to 10. They can open their eyes at any time and shout Agalmata! Any statues that are caught moving are out.

Senior Infants played a game that is played in Italy called “Guardie a Lardi”. It’s a fun version of cops and robbers and there was great excitement during the game.

1st Class took a closer look at Olympic handball known as European handball originated in Northern Europe. 1st class played a few mini games on our newly developed astroturf.

2nd Class played a very fun game that originated in Denmark called “Danish Longball” which is a fun mix of rounders, football and dodgeball.

4th Class celebrated this week with Finnish Molkky, French petanque, and Danish Longball!

5th Class learned the words and dance of the New Zealand ‘Haka’.

6th Class played an Indian game called ‘Throwball’, which is a very simple but enjoyable game. Catch and throw, if the ball hits the ground on the other side, it’s a point.

Well done to all involved during this fun initiative.
