1st Class

First class work 2nd-5th June

Dear Parents,
I can’t believe it is June, in these unusual and unprecedented times we are extremely lucky to live where we do. I’m sure everyone is out and about enjoying the beautiful weather and in this regard I imagine school work is becoming a bit more of a struggle. If however it suits your routine to have the structure of the work it is here and available for you. Normally, in June , we would have covered most curriculum areas and would be more focused on the fun and outdoor elements of school life. With that in mind I am decreasing the work on here for the last few weeks. There is still English/Irish and Maths every day, and for the week I will include one SESE activity. The SESE activity will be something that offers the possiblilty of expanded learning, and can hopefully be integrated into fun activities.
This week for SESE we will focus on Scoil na Mara episode 3, so the children can watch, explore on the sea shore, and if they want complete the written task’ Rules for Adults on the beach’ during the week.As always , if anyone needs to talk to me ,please get in touch. You can schedule a call for your child between 11 and 12.15 if you wish.
For the literacy work, the children now have their ‘Skills Book’. From Tuesday they will work on this.
I will load the reader in the tab ‘The School Trip’ page by page. The comprehension work for this reader is in the skills book, starting on P.77. As this was used in station teaching the children are at different stages in this book. So I am recommending to work daily on this for 15/20 mins
Please tell your child I am thinking of them and hope they are all very well and enjoying this time. As restrictions lift I have bumped into some of them and it is so heart warming to see them…all looking so grown up I must add!
For now, all the very best, Niamh.

3th Class

SCHOOL WORK: 3RD CLASS: WEEK OF TUESDAY 2ND JUNE 2020
Hi to all in 3rd Class and well done for all your hard work. I don’t mean school work. I mean the great job you have done in staying cheerful and helpful for you families. Maith sibh! We are working outside, as much as possible, this week.

ENGLISH/SCIENCE/MATHS

Draw a line down a sheet of paper to make 2 columns. Write NATURAL on one side and ARTIFICIAL on the other. Take a watch/timer set for 15 minutes and go into the garden. List all the natural and artificial things you can see in the time given. (living & growing things are natural – as well as things that occur in nature e.g. cat, grass & clouds are all natural. Car, tarmac & plant pot are all artificial). Set the timer for 15 mns again. Make a list of all the living creatures you see in the time. Multiply your answer by 4 to get how many creatures you might see in 1 hour. Multiply that answer by 24 to get the number of creatures in a day. For a week, multiply that answer by 7. (Use a calculator if you need to). Make a list of all the 2D & 3D shapes you can see in your garden/house with an explanation e.g. rectangle = window, circle = tyre etc.

P.E.

Make up a possible Sports Day game and write an explanation (photos might help). Get your family to try it out – tell them it is homework.

ART

If you are lucky enough to get to the beach, make the best sand castle creation ever and send me a photo. If you can’t get to the beach yet, (like me!) create a piece of Garden Art. Use twigs, leaves, stones, grass, shells etc.

MATHS/P.E.

Use any ball. Set a timer for 5mns. How many times can you..throw the ball in the air and catch with 2 hands, with 1 hand, with no hands ( kidding), bounce & catch with 2 hands, 1 hand, throw against a wall and catch, throw in the air – turn around & catch, how many kicks can you do against a wall (If you break a window I will say I have never heard of you). Make a chart to show your results. Make up some of your own and add to the chart.

ENGLISH

Find somewhere comfortable in the garden. (e.g. hammock, sun lounger, blanket) Set the timer for 25 mns. Take the first 20 mns as “thinking time.” ( if anyone asks, you’re doing school work). In the last 5 mns write down 10 things you can do on a nice day instead of school work.

GAEILGE

4th Class

4th class Homework for Week beginning Tuesday 2nd June to Friday 5th June
Hi everyone. What a week!!! glorious sunshine feeling like we really have been out foreign. I hope you are staying strong and safe. I know it seems like it’s getting a little long at this stage but you are all doing your part so well. Before we get to the work can we all just remind ourselves of staying safe in the water. There was a water safety information guide added to the Knockskeagh facebook page last week after the bravest ladies we know Ms McMaho, Beth Darrer and past pupil of Knockskeagh N.S. Lynn McCarthy rescued 3 teenages after getting caught in a rip current. You really are our heroes. We are so proud of them.
Regarding work you surpassed yourselves last week, with your beautiful art pieces from Clonakilty ‘We will support you’ and of course all the wonderful news you sent in for our first ever Newsletter which of course we had hoped to do with you as a class in school. Thank you everyone for your photos and all the hard work you and your parents are putting in. We really hope you enjoyed the movie we made on the shop fronts and the wonderful newsletter which could not have happened without your help. some people forgot to submit pieces so please try to submit something this week instead. This week can be about anything you wish, we know some groups had chosen West Cork animal Welfare to conduct an interview, maybe they would agree to have your parents call them and interview them this week over the phone, others wanted to do a comic strip, a group wanted to do a Greek and roman section. So get those thinking caps on and see what you come up with! it can be riddles/horoscopes/funny activities you have tried at home anything really.
Here is the outline of work for this week with much more detail on Google Classroom. There’s a huge variety there from regular classwork to fun podcasts, art, becoming explorers to how your tummies work!!. So there is something for everyone. There is no pressure to hand everything in but do respond to something during the week so we know how you are doing. We love your videos and pictures so keep sending them in.
