Bike Day 2021

Bike Day 2021

To mark National Bike Week, Ulick O’Beirne from Bike Wizards visited our school to provide cycling lessons to all classes today.

All classes got the opportunity to navigate their way around our playground and school track. They showed great control on their bikes.

While Bike Day was about the children practicing their cycling skills, it also played a very important part in promoting road safety awareness in our school.

Well done everybody on a fun morning of exercise.

Please see our gallery below for a snapshot of some of the cycling on display today.

Bike Week runs between the 12th – 18th September 2021.

Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of all that’s great about bikes and cycling. Held over an extended week each year, with bike-themed events organised by local authorities, community groups, and cycling groups throughout Ireland.

Cycling has much to offer people of every age and ability, so get on your bike and join the fun during this year’s Bike Week or anytime.

Check out bikeweek.ie for more information.

September Sport in Knockskeagh

In Knockskeagh we are proud of being recognised as an Active School and this month is proving to be as active and fun-filled as ever!!!

Over the last few weeks, Barry O’Mahony of Warrior Martial Arts has visited our school and provides excellent Taekwondo lessons to all classes. Our pupils really love these lessons.

Finny O’Regan of Clonakilty RFC visits our school each Thursday and our pupils practice their skills and movement with smiles on their faces.

Conan O’Donovan of Clonakilty GAA visits our school every Tuesday and provides Gaelic Football coaching to all pupils of our school. Conan helps to develop skills through fun small group games.

We are lucky to have such dedicated coaches visit our school each year, there is certainly always fun and fitness provided during these sessions.

Thank you Barry, Finny and Conan 🙂

Corn GAA Final and Presentation

On Tuesday 22nd of June, the final of the Corn GAA Football Tournament was played.

The Corn tournament involved teams from 6th class playing against each other over the last month.

The top two teams after the group stage games were Carlow and Waterford.

The Corn Final pitted these two teams against each other. The final turned out to be a fantastic match with the result in the balance right up to the last few minutes.

The crowd in attendance was treated to an excellent game with skill, teamwork, and passion in abundance.

In the end, it was the Carlow team including the wily management duo of Mr. Horgan and Ms. Collins that won the game.

The Waterford team managed by Mrs Canty and Mr O’Callaghan had to settle for 2nd place. However, the Waterford team can be very proud of their performance.

After the final, the Corn Cup was presented by Mr Horgan to the talented captain of the Carlow team Jerry O’Leary.

Well done to Mr. O’Meara for his organisation of the tournament and all staff who assisted in the running of the tournament over the last month.

Please see the gallery below for some pictures from a great day.

Knockskeagh Olympics Presentation

On Tuesday 22nd of June, we brought our first Knockskeagh Olympic Games to its conclusion by rewarding all participants.

Over the last two weeks, each class participated in lots of different sporting events! Each class was divided into Olympic teams and represented a particular country over the course of the two weeks!

Today we presented the gold, silver, and bronze medals to each class.

There was great excitement as the names of each of the teams were called out by our organiser and MC for the presentations Mr McCarthy.

Well done to all participants in the Olympics. Also, well done to Mr. McCarthy for his organisation of the games and to all staff who ran the particular events in each class.

Check out our gallery below which includes the podium presentation for each class.

Walk Around Europe

This year all classes took part in a ‘Walk around Europe’. Instead of hopping on a plane and visiting all the countries in the EU, we went on a trip to all the countries around the track in Knockskeagh!

At every stop we learned about the capital of the country, saw a picture of a famous landmark and listened to some interesting facts, and learned how to say “hello” in their native language, which was great fun to practice!
