Camogie and Hurling Finals

Camogie and Hurling Finals

Camogie and Hurling Finals

We’d a great week of sporting action over the last week on local GAA fields. Both our camogie and hurling teams represented our school so well displaying great endeavour, attitude, teamwork and skills throughout each competition.

Huge congratulations must go to our camogie team this week. After two amazing group stage wins, they played magnificently well in the final against St Josephs GNS Skibbereen and were deserving cup champions on the day.

Our hurling team did incredibly well to get to their cup final after a win against Bandon Primary School but unfortunately narrowly lost to deserving cup winners Scoil Mhuire agus Bharra, Bantry in the final.

On both days, it was really encouraging to see our young hurlers and camogie players playing their hearts out for our school. Well done to all involved.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

Last Friday October 10th to mark World Mental Health Day we launched our wellbeing activities for the coming school year.

Our focus was “Empathy”. Each of our pupils partnered up and took turns talking and listening to each other’s life in school. Their chat focused on things that make them happy, sad and/or angry during their school day. We called it the “Walk in my Shoes” activity and we hope the activity will encourage more of an appreciation for pupils’ unique feelings and challenges during their school day.

Our pupils followed this activity with a mindful walk around our school grounds. Some of our senior classes participated in a very beneficial Online Mental Health Talk called “Mind Your Mind” on the day too.

Huge thank you to everyone for your incredible support for our school fundraiser last Friday, the total fund raised so far is 504euro.

BLAST Artist in Residency

BLAST Artist in Residency

BLAST Artist in Residency

Over the last four Thursdays, 2nd and 3rd Classes have engaged in Art workshops as part of the BLAST in Education Initiative. 🎨

Our assigned resident artist for this year was Julie O’Hea, and she has been focusing on the Visual Arts strand of Construction in the workshops. 👩🏻‍🎨

Children in these classes began by thinking about and discussing their personality traits, and explored what animal they believe represents these traits. Initially, they then drew these animals, before bringing them to 3D life, by using recyclable materials. 🦊🐭

When those creations were completed, the classes formed groups, where they came together to make larger 3D animals. These animals were combinations of the different personality traits of the children in that group.

These residencies are supported by the Department of Education and organised through the West Cork Education Centre.

Many thanks to Julie for the fun and engaging workshops which the children in Knockskeagh will remember forever. 🎨

Camogie and Hurling Blitz

Camogie and Hurling Blitz

Camogie and Hurling Blitz

Our 4th, 5th and 6th class girls and boys teams took part in the recent Sciath na Scoil camogie/hurling blitz held in St Colums GAA club, Kealkill last Thursday morning.

Well done to all involved in the organisation of this competition.

Last Thursday was a grading blitz to see what school teams would be suited to play against our school in another blitz in the coming weeks.

Both our teams played 3 games each against Bandon Primary School, Coomhola NS and Scoil Mhuire & Barra.

Our boys and girls teams showed great skill, endeavor, and attitude in all their games.

Our pupils attitude was even more special due to the fact that some of our pupils were experiencing their first game of hurling/ camogie on the day.

Well done everybody for giving your all smile
