Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020

The children once again took part in their own “Seo Gaeilge” this year.  The junior classes (Junior infants to 2nd class) performed on Wednesday the 11th of March and senior classes performed on Tuesday the 10th of March.  The children also took part in quiz time as Gaeilge and celebrated Gaeilge through the arts.  Mar a deir siad ‘BAIN TRAIL AISTI’.

As the slogan says ‘HAVE A GO WITH GAEILGE AND SURPRISE YOURSELF’.

Also, we were delighted to welcome John Spillane back again this year for Seachtain na Gaeilge.  He entertained us all with his songs and stories, and we know the children benefited from this experience.

You can see some pictures from Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020 below.

World Book Day

World Book Day

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day on Friday the 6th of March last.  The pupils from senior classes were paired with the children from the junior classes and each read a book of their younger counterpart’s choice.
To add to the occasion all children were invited to dress as a character of their choosing. It turned out to be a very colorful and inspiring experience for the whole school.

Knockskeagh General Election

Knockskeagh General Election

Knockskeagh General Election

We held our very own general election in February 2020 this year.
Each 6th class member was assigned a candidate in the Cork South West general election.
The morning begun with all 6th class canvassing the school yard!

Then they moved onto their speeches in the school hall where they outlined their own and their parties manifestos!(a lot of homework off and pizza parties were promised).

All classes from first to sixth class then voted!
Afterwards led by Mrs Beechinor , 6th class tallied and counted the votes! Here their Maths skills were put to the test!!

The quota was 49 votes to get elected!

After the second vote Holly Cairns – Roisin Duggan and Christopher O Sullivan -David Harte got the Quota and were elected!

On the third count Paul Hayes – Ben Coffey and Joseph Allen got elected!

All 6th class did really well!

The 6th class had a fantastic day and were able to see first hand how the electoral system works from canvassing to the vote count!

Well done to all involved!

School Musical – Mary Poppins

Many thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make this year shows such a success. Your co-operation leading up to the show and on the night itself was very much appreciated.

I’m sure anybody who was present at the show would agree that all classes were simply amazing on both nights. They should be very proud of themselves and we’re sure they’ll have great memories of the shows for many years to come. Maith sibh go léir.

The DVD of the show will be available to buy shortly.
