Knockskeagh receive Primary Science and Maths Award

Our school has just received its eighth ‘Award of Science and Maths Excellence’. We are
extremely proud of this award, as it once again recognises the work done in Science & Maths throughout the school.

Congratulations to all staff and pupils who participated in the programme and especially to Second Class Teacher Mr. Denis Murphy who compiled our submission.

Knockskeagh awarded its 6th Green Schools Flag

Green Schools Flag

Last week, we received our 6th  Green Flag for our school. This flag was for Global Citizenship; Litter and Waste. 

This theme enables schools to discover how their work positively influences our global community.

We worked very hard in several areas in order to receive this flag, but the biggest achievement we had was in reducing single-use plastic bottles within the school by a massive 88%!

We also made an improvement in litter and waste management by reducing general food waste and packaging in our lunchboxes.

Lastly, we looked at the different cultures that exist within our school community, and we held a Culture Day in May 2019 to celebrate some of these cultures.  

Well done to all involved for all their hard work and to Claire O’Regan for coordinating the submission.

6th Class have been working very hard over the last few weeks, both in and out of the classroom.

They recorded their own song and made a video to accompany it (all while social distancing!) to reflect their feelings on COVID-19.

1st Class Bike Day

1st Class had an enjoyable mornings exercise recently.

They brought their bikes into school and cycled through an obstacle course in our schoolyard. They also navigated our school track very well on their bikes.

Also, Bike Day plays a very important part in promoting road safety awareness in our school. 

Well done everybody on a fun morning of exercise.

On the topic of bikes, this years Bike Week runs between the 19th – 27th September 2020.

Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of all that’s great about bikes and cycling. Held over an extended week each year, with bike-themed events organised by local authorities, community groups, and cycling groups throughout Ireland.

Cycling has much to offer people of every age and ability, so get on your bike and join the fun during this year’s Bike Week or anytime.

Rugby
We were delighted to welcome Finny O’Regan from Clonakilty Rugby Club to Knockskeagh recently.

Finny is currently coaching tag rugby to all children from Senior Infants to 6th class.

All classes are being coached individually every Wednesday on our new courts, as well as on our sports field.

All equipment is being sanitised between classes. Thank you Finny for providing a really enjoyable, safe, and fun experience for all our pupils.
