Pupils from 1st to 5th class were given the opportunity to participate in the Wild Work Initiative on the week running up to the Easter holidays. All classes thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor classroom experience and they learned so much with Lizet, the programme co-ordinator.
The Wild Work Programme aims to enable communities and empower schools to undertake ambitious programmes that will affect real change in habits and attitudes towards the environment. The initiative is one of the largest biodiversity training programmes in Ireland. Sustainability is core to their work and the aim is to make schools and communities more green in their approach.
They encourage learning in wild spaces and Lizet brought the classes out in to nature, where the children were able to learn through seeing, touching and interacting with the natural world. The pupils were enabled to experience an outdoor learning setting that inspired practical actions and they learned how nature can help people help nature and explore how our small actions can make a big difference to wild places and schools.ย
It was an amazing experience and we thank Lizet for all her enthusiasm and hard work throughout the 2 days she was with us! Well done everybodyย

Trip to Darrara Agricultural College 2023
On Wednesday 8th March, 2023, 3rd Class, 1st Class and Senior Infants headed off to Darrara Agricultural College to be shown around, and what a treat it was! The rain and snow certainly couldnt dampen our spirits!
We got to sit up on the tractors ๐, it didn’t matter to us whether they were John Deere or New Holland. ๐ Then we went to visit the new lambs that have been born and best of all, we all got to hold one. ๐ They were really cute! After that, we went to see the new baby calves. ๐ฎThey were too big for us to hold, but we were able to rub them. We were very quiet so not to frighten them. We learned what happens in the milking parlour and saw all the machines that are needed so we can have milk on our tables every day. ๐ฅ Lastly and definitely the best part was everyone got to “drive” a tractor in their real life simulator. It was amazing to get that practice in.
We definitely have some young budding farmers amongst us๐จโ๐พ. How lucky are we to have this service practically on our doorstep! Thanks to everyone at Darrara Agricultural College for all your advise and guidance. We will most certainly be back! ๐
