Sports Day Medal and Olympic Games Presentation

We were delighted to welcome our former pupil and current u16 Cork Ladies footballer Roisín Duggan back to Knockskeagh NS today. Róisín presented medals to our Sports Day teams. As well as this, Róisín presented certificates for our recent Knockskeagh Olympic Games. Thank you Róisín for inspiring our pupils with your words of encouragement and advice today

What a day for our girls and boys squads in MTU today!!

Girls

The girls started the action today and they all represented our school so well!!

In the sprints, both Keelin Collins and Kitty May Walsh took home gold.

Holly Wicks, Aideen Murphy, Eabha O’Leary and Zara Murphy took home silver in their races. While Isobel McCarthy won bronze in her race

Our Girls relay team of Kitty May Walsh, Ruby McCarthy, Aideen Murphy, and Ella Coakley ran their hearts out and took home the gold for Knockskeagh NS

Our girls squad can be very proud of all their performances, it was truly a team effort

Boys

In the afternoon, it was the turn of our boys squad.

We are very proud of each and everyone of them.

In the sprint races, Daithí O Brien took home silver in his race.

While our boys relay team of Matthew Kelleher, Michael Collins, Tim Crowley, and Patrick O Leary brought home silver in a very close relay race

Magnificent performances by all and all fantastic ambassadors for our school today. Well done!

Knockskeagh Olympic Games 2024

Knockskeagh Olympic Games

Knockskeagh Olympic Games 2024

Our Active Team launched the Knockskeagh Olympic Games by visiting all classes during the week. They spoke about the Knockskeagh NS Olympic values of respect, fair play, joy of effort, and pursuit of excellence which were inspired by the Dare to Believe Programme.

Each class will be divided into teams over the next few weeks and they will take part in different events related to our focus strand Atlethics. Each pupil will be awarded points for their team depending on their placing in each event. The culmination of our games this year will be our Sports Day on Tuesday June 11th.

Let the games begin!!

West Cork Rapid Response Critical Care Jeep Visit 2024 🚨

On Monday 20th May, we were very lucky to have the West Cork Rapid Response Critical Care jeep visit us in school. 🚑 This is a fantastic resource in our community and it is completely voluntary. How lucky are we to have this resource on our doorstep if we need it?

All children were invited to explore the jeep and see each of the different compartments that the jeep has. It was smiles all around! 😊

Thanks to Kate, Betty and Liam for their care and attention and for giving up their morning to come in to us. We really appreciate it! The sound of the sirens impressed everyone! 🚨

Run Around Europe Challenge

Our ‘Run Around Europe’ Challenge came to its conclusion recently.
All classes ran, walked, and jogged laps of our track over the last month and reached various capital cities around Europe.

Well done to all pupils and staff for their efforts this year!!

Our Active Schools Team helped form this art display to take account of the destinations reached by all our classes too.

Bike Day 2024

Ulick of Bike Wizards helped to teach our pupils from Junior Infants to 3rd Class cycling skills today.

The classes loved the challenges that Ulick set in each lesson. They learned about balance, braking, and turning skills 🚴‍♀️

There were a few pupils who cycled without the aid of stabilisers for the very first time which was excellent to hear and witness.

Others in the more junior classes focussed on balance bike work and teachers commented on how competence improved over the session.

We were delighted to receive funding for this bike event from Cork Sports Partnership on behalf of Cork County and City Councils.

Thank you so much to Ulick for his fun and invaluable advice and to all parents who supported us by bringing in pupils’ bicycles.
