African Drumming

Every Tuesday over the last five weeks, each class has engaged in African Drumming workshops.

Building on knowledge and skill from last year, each class have been introduced to basic rhythmic concepts of West African and world percussion through drumming, chanting, body percussion, call and response and storytelling.

Using the West African Djembe (pronounced djem – bay) students assemble in the drum circle.  They connect to rhythm and sound using a variety of percussion instruments, bells and shakers. It really is great fun!!

Everybody used look forward to drumming time each Tuesday. 🥁😀

Many thanks to Patrick for the fun drumming lessons 👏

Maths Week 2024

We marked ‘Maths Week’ from Monday 14th October to Friday 18th October. ➕➖✖️➗

We have had a very busy week in Knockskeagh doing lots of different Maths activities! We had Maths challenges, quizzes, art, iPad games and trails around our school grounds.

We also had a very sucessful Maths stations event in the school hall where a younger class paired with an older class to play different Maths games and take part in activities.

It really was great fun discovering Maths all around our school during the week!!

Walk on Wednesday

Walk on Wednesday

Last week, all classes learned about the importance of Road Safety, with every pupil receiving a high visibility jacket 🦺 or high visability armband. For our next GreenSchools flag, we will be working on the theme of Global Citizenship – Travel. This focuses on reducing our carbon footprint and so as a school, we looked at walking. We discussed the importance of walking for the environment but also for our own health and all classes took to the track at different times during Wednesday.
We borrowed some traffic lights🚦 and learned how to correctly use them, whilst being a pedestrian or in a vehicle. There were a few games of “Red Light – Green Light” which added to the excitement and the children were pretending to be cars, trucks, vans and pedestrians. All children relected back over the Safe Cross Code and discussed how to safely cross the road.
Always wear a high vis. 🦺 Be safe, be seen!

Community, Christ, and Children celebrated at School Community Masses

Bishop Fintan Gavin welcomed school principals, teachers, SNAs, chairpersons and members of Boards of Management and parent representatives across the 174 catholic schools in the Diocese of Cork and Ross to two masses for the opening of the school year in Clonakilty and in the North Cathedral.
Bishop Fintan said that our schools are communities that in the spirit of Christ welcome the stranger and invite them to be friends. “Our faith identity as a Christian community is built on the gospel values of welcome, respect and inclusion,” he said.
🎵Knockskeagh NS were chosen to co-ordinate the music for the mass for the Diocese of Ross that was held in Clonakilty on Monday 14th October, 2024. The choir was represented by 5th and 6th class pupils and they performed phenomenally.🎵

Jersey Day

Our whole school helped raise funds for GOAL today by taking part in Jersey Day.

It was amazing to see the colour and variety of jerseys on display throughout our school community.

Well done all for making the special effort today.

We’d like to thank all pupils, staff, parents and our whole school community who raised an amazing total of €364. 🙏

We are sure that the funds raised will be put to good use in some of the worlds most vulnerable communities.
