Our boys hurling team represented our school in the new West Cork Sciath na Scol hurling competition at Ahamilla today.
After the grading competition a few weeks ago, we were placed in Division 2 which included two groups of three schools. The top side in each group would play in the cup final and the 2nd placed teams in each group would play in the shield final.
Our first game against Ballinacarriga NS was a very tough game. Our opposition getting a great start but our lads fought back and showed great spirit to win by a few points in the end.
Our 2nd game in the group was effectively a cup semi-final against Barryroe as they managed to win against Ballinacarriga NS in their first game too.
The Barryroe game was a closely fought game all the way through. After being level for much of the game, Barryroe NS struck a few decisive scores in the 2nd half to eventually win by two points. This titanic battle took a lot out of our boys as they left everything out on the field. However, they can hold their heads high as all onlookers commented on the attitude and skills on display from both sides. The Barryroe NS team went on to win the cup final against Coppeen NS after a fine display, so very well done to them.
As a result of our loss to Barryroe NS, the Knockskeagh boys entered the Shield Final against Ardfield NS which pitted the two 2nd placed teams in each group against each other. Ardfield with the wind in the 1st half took a commanding lead that they never relinquished. In fairness to our lads, they never stopped going but Ardfield NS defended gallantly and ran out deserving winners in the shield final in the end. Congrats to them
Well done to all Knockskeagh NS panel members on the day, they represented our school with great spirit, attitude, and determination. We are very proud of them.
Sciath na Scoil Hurling Panel members as follows; Daire O Neill, Donncha Straight, Jack O’Donovan, Tim Crowley, Matthew Kelleher, Michael Collins, Patrick O’Leary, Jason O’Connell, Daniel Walsh, Colin Moloney, Liam Campbell, Ben Egan and Vincent Beechinor.
Next Friday it’s the girl’s turn in the Sciath na Scoil Camogie Blitz. We wish them all the very best of luck. Knockskeagh Abú
