As part of European Week of Sport, we set up a table tennis area in our playground today.
Our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th classes got to enjoy the area at different parts of the day.
The pupils in each of the classes had great fun playing in the sun and displayed some amazing skills too.

To celebrate European Week of Sport, our classes learned about a sport, dance, or game from a different country.
There was great fun had by all through this activity, well done to all students for being good sports, and huge thanks to all teachers for their creativity in this initiative.
Junior Infants had great fun playing a game called ‘Agalmata’ which is Greek for statues. One player stands in the middle with their eyes closed and counts to 10. They can open their eyes at any time and shout Agalmata! Any statues that are caught moving are out.
Senior Infants played a game that is played in Italy called “Guardie a Lardi”. It’s a fun version of cops and robbers and there was great excitement during the game.
1st Class took a closer look at Olympic handball known as European handball originated in Northern Europe. 1st class played a few mini games on our newly developed astroturf.
2nd Class played a very fun game that originated in Denmark called “Danish Longball” which is a fun mix of rounders, football and dodgeball.
4th Class celebrated this week with Finnish Molkky, French petanque, and Danish Longball!
5th Class learned the words and dance of the New Zealand ‘Haka’.
6th Class played an Indian game called ‘Throwball’, which is a very simple but enjoyable game. Catch and throw, if the ball hits the ground on the other side, it’s a point.
Well done to all involved during this fun initiative.

Our 1st to 6th class pupils took part in a rugby blitz today in Clonakilty RFC.
The event was fantastically organised and huge credit must go to all involved on the day.
Thankfully the weather was very good too.
All our classes had a really enjoyable day and well done to all our representatives. You did us proud!!

Our 5th and 6th class girls and boys teams took part in the recent Sciath na Scoil camogie/hurling blitz held in Clonakilty GAA club this morning.
This was a historic day for our school as it was the first time that we had entered into this hurling and camogie competition.
Well done to all involved in the organisation of this competition and it is great to see it happening here locally.
Today was a grading blitz to see what school teams would be suited to play against in the future.
Our boys and girls teams played Gaelscoil Clonakilty, Laragh NS, Newcestown NS, and Timoleague NS.
They showed great skill, endeavor, and attitude in all their games.
